Thoughts on Pokémon Sun/Moon

I figured I'd spend this evening blogging about my thoughts on the seemingly 7th generation of the Pokémon franchise that were revealed on the 20th anniversary of Red and Green's release in Japan. These new games are to be called Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.

We didn't get a full blown trailer, but we saw plenty of concept art to wet our appetites until what I assume will be the first gameplay trailer (that probably won't show more than the new batch of starter Pokémon and the Legendaries that will dawn the covers) during Nintendo's Digital Event at E3.

I should mention that I absolutely LOVE the forthcoming update to Pokémon Bank that allows the Virtual Console releases of Red, Blue and Yellow to be compatible with Sun and Moon. I'm also expecting plenty of new Mega Evolutions such as the (hopefully) obvious Solrock and Lunatone.

My only real concern with diving into a new generation is that the new Zygarde forms and Volcanion seem to be thrown out the window (unless we get to visit Kalos during the post-game a la Kanto back in the 2nd generation and 4th gen remakes). Plus, how does the newest revealed Mythical Pokémon Magearna tie into it all?

In the past, the staff at The Pokémon Company International have explained that offering paid DLC content to add onto a title wasn't in their realm of interests, so it'll be interesting to see if that changes with Sun and Moon. Other than that, I look forward to seeing more about these new games and hopefully the fan base will receive them in a positive manner.
